present the work of Haleh Gallery to a broader audience we rely on the concept 7seen from the Persian tradition (Persian: haft seen means seven ‘S’). In the group exhibition 7seen we show the works of seven artists of our gallery. According to the Persian calendar the New Year starts on the astronomical beginning of spring. On this day, we celebrate ‘No-Rooz’ which means ‘new day’. Norooz has been celebrated for more than 3000 years and is rooted in the tradition of Zoroastrianism. The most significant aspect of this holiday is that it is a non-religious and non-ethnic celebration. Norooz unites in celebrating the beginning of spring millions of people spanning from Iran to China, India, Turkey, Egypt and parts of Eastern Europe.

Norooz is symbolised by setting up a Haft-Seen, a decorative table in every house. The table is decorated with at least 7 items with the first letter ‘S’ (س in the Persian Alphabet), such as: Sib (Apple): Red apples represent health and beauty, Sabzeh (Sprouts) wheat, barley or lentils sprouts symbolize the fertility of the land in the

Spring and the rebirth of nature, Sekkeh (coin) represent wealth and hopes for

prosperity. The decoration contains also other items not starting with ‘S’, like a mirror for self-reflection, candles for enlightenment and happiness, and a goldfish to represent joy and movement, etc.

Haleh Gallery curated 7seen to introduce the Munich audience to our gallery’s program. Our program unites a diverse group of contemporary artists, who address in their works similar questions of identity, heritage and roots. We show the works of global artists, especially from Iran and the Middle East. Art from Iran is one of the most exciting art productions of the region. And it is still underrepresented on the European art market. We provide a special access for the German audience to the fascinating art scene of Tehran.

Our curatorial program intends to bridge the gap between the local and the global. We want to establish a dialogue between different cultures. We aim to show that seemingly opposed cultures rely on the same contemporary visual language.
