ENCOUNTERS and COLLISIONS

The artists Ilana Lewitan and Leda Luss Luyken of Haleh Gallery meet within the exhibition ENCOUNTERS AND COLLISIONS. In their artistic works both artists are crossing the traditional boundaries between painting and object art. Modular worlds between figuration and abstraction opened up multilayered narrative spaces. Questions of personal and historical memory, identity, as well as frequent disparity between one’s own and other people’s perceptions are negotiated in these spaces. Ilana Lewitan and Leda Luss Luyken explore in their works among other things regime of the gaze of perceptions of femininity. How is feminity defined? What is a woman? How are women perceived? The conceptual artist Leda Luss Luyken represents for example in her new cycle „49% Vision“ mirroring and reflections of typical female characteristics. Ilana Lewitan’s picture boxes made of plexiglas are filled with ambiguous codes in bold and sensuous colours and therefore turn into containers of memories and perceptions.
